As the new year begins, architecture and engineering firm Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is proud to announce the appointment of Amy Bell, vice president of architecture in Georgia, to its board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Bell joined GMC in Montgomery nearly 20 years ago, then relocated to Atlanta in 2016 to lead its architecture practice in Georgia. Within just four years, she had exponentially grown the architecture team, including expanding its presence to Savannah and Augusta. Today, the architecture department in Georgia includes almost 30 professionals and was recently ranked among the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Largest Architectural Firms for 2024.
“Amy embodies the qualities desired of a director – passion, vision, leadership, stewardship, knowledge and more,” GMC CEO Jeffrey Brewer said. “She plays a key role in the architectural division, however, her influence spans throughout the company as an advocate for all of GMC’s people and clients, as well as through her leadership across firm-wide initiatives and within the local community.”
Bell believes in the power of a team and prides herself on collaboration and empowering those around her to be successful. Under her leadership, GMC’s architecture team has worked on notable projects throughout the state, including the recently completed University of Georgia (UGA) new softball training facility at Jack Turner Stadium, DeKalb County School District’s new middle and high schools at Sequoyah (under construction), Chamblee City Hall, Fayetteville City Hall and City Center Park and many others.
As a leader in varying capacities, Bell is active in both the profession and the community, serving on the GA4LE Board of Directors, Director at Large; Innovation Academy Foundation Board; Council for Quality Growth member; Cobb County and Chamber CEO Roundtable; and many others. Bell was also recognized with the Business Woman Rising Star Award at GNFCC Women InFluencing Summit.
In addition to Bell’s appointment as a director, GMC also announced Galen Thackston as the new board chairman for 2025. Existing board members who will continue to serve are Lee Walters, Cedric Campbell, Kevin Laird, John Bricken and Freddie Lynn.
