Monday, March 3rd, 2025

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) hosted the kickoff event for the inaugural cohort of the Gateway to Growth Concessions Small Business Program Thursday, Feb. 27. This event marks the official launch of ATL’s initiative to educate, empower and create opportunities for small businesses looking to operate in the world’s busiest airport.

Gateway to Growth is the educational component of the ATL Concessions Small Business Program, an effort approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Oct. 16, 2024. This 11-week academy is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the tools, resources and insights necessary to navigate airport operations and successfully compete for concession opportunities at ATL.

“The Gateway to Growth program is a movement to ensure that small businesses have a clear, structured and powerful path to success at the world’s busiest and most efficient airport,” said Interim General Manager Jan Lennon. “For too long, breaking into this industry has been a challenge for small businesses. Today that changes. The Gateway to Growth Academy is a commitment, a promise and a game-changer.”

The evening began with a networking reception, allowing participants to connect with Airport leadership, mentors and fellow business owners. The group heard remarks from Airport Interim General Manager Jan Lennon and Assistant General Manager of Commercial Revenue Tyronia Smith. Participants also engaged in introductions and discussions about their businesses, program expectations, and the impact of this initiative on the local small business community.

Key Highlights from the Event:

  • Welcome remarks from Interim GM Jan Lennon addressed the significance of the program.

  • Introduction of key City of Atlanta and Department of Aviation leadership reinforced the City’s commitment to small business growth.

  • Cohort introductions provided small business owners the opportunity to share their stories and aspirations.

  • Program overview, roadmap and mentorship discussions set expectations for participants.

  • Q&A session addressed questions about the program.

The Gateway to Growth program will run from March 3 through May 1, 2025, culminating in a graduation ceremony during National Small Business Week, May 4-10. Following this, participants will be well-positioned to apply for concession opportunities at ATL through the upcoming SOAR ATL small business program.
