Monday, March 31st, 2025
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has unveiled a new online tool designed to provide transparency and real-time updates on its extensive capital projects aimed at maintaining, improving, and expanding the transit system.
The Project Snapshot Tool allows users to track the progress of all projects within MARTA’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This 10-year plan is regularly updated and approved by MARTA’s Board of Directors. The tool includes key details such as:
-
Timelines
-
Budgets
-
Spending progress
Users can search for projects by MARTA’s four jurisdictions: City of Atlanta, and Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton Counties. Additionally, projects are organized into specific categories for easier access:
-
Expansion Projects: Includes new services like MARTA Rapid lines and the Bankhead platform extension.
-
State of Good Repair – Projects: Targets long-term maintenance needs such as station rehabilitations.
-
State of Good Repair – Recurring: Covers annual maintenance costs for elevators, escalators, railcars, buses, and vehicle replacement.
-
Policy, Innovation, Administration: Includes studies, administrative costs, software, and other necessary items to manage the capital program.
The tool provides a brief project description, its current phase, anticipated completion date, and a chart to display the amount of funds spent versus the lifetime project budget.
MARTA’s Chief Capital Officer, Carrie Rocha, shared, “This tool offers a new way for our customers and other stakeholders to follow the progress on our wide-reaching capital program. We hope it helps give insight into the enormous scale of work it takes to keep our system running for another half-century and beyond.”
