Metro Atlanta Reports a 3.4% Unemployment Rate for January 2025

The labor force decreased in Atlanta by 9,853 and ended the month with 3,288,503. This number increased by 1,095 when compared to January 2024.
The number of employed decreased by 13,147 to 3,176,766 in January. From January 2024 to January 2025, the number of employed was down by 2,849.
The number of unemployed was up by 3,294 to 111,737 in January. From January 2024 to January 2025, the number of unemployed was up by 3,944.
Atlanta ended January with 3,086,900 jobs. Jobs were down 65,400 over-the-month and up 23,100 over the year.
Over-the-month, jobs were up in Durable Goods Manufacturing, 600, and Local Government, 200.
Jobs were down over-the-month in Transportation and Warehousing, -13,700, Retail Trade, -11,600, Accommodation and Food Services, -8,000, Information -5,800, and Administrative and Support Services, -5,500.
The sectors with the most over-the-year job gains included Health Care and Social Assistance, 21,700, Local Government, 6,300, Finance and Insurance, 3,400, Federal Government, 3,200, and Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation, 3,000.
Jobs were down in Administrative and Support Services, -7,400, Retail Trade, -5,100, Transportation and Warehousing, -4,100, Accommodation and Food Services, -3,200, and Durable Goods Manufacturing, -1,400.
In January, initial claims were up 1,764 over-the-month to 14,888 in January. Initial claims were down 1,838 over-the-year.
