With Jackie Robinson Day approaching, there is no better story to uplift and honor Jackie’s legacy than the L.E.A.D. X APS Rookie and Jr. Ambassador Spring Baseball Leagues. This spring, over 170 African American boys are playing baseball in the heart of the inner city of Atlanta at the Historic Booker T. Washington High School at Moore-Clendenon Baseball Field. This league is designed to introduce Atlanta’s youth to the game of baseball while instilling values of leadership, excellence, and determination—principles embodied by Jackie Robinson himself. Through this league, young players will not only hone their athletic skills but also gain mentorship and life skills that will prepare them for success on and off the field. The league is currently on a two-week spring break and will resume action on April 19th.
Complementing the youth league, L.E.A.D. is launching its 'Pedagogy for Pros' Coach Certification Program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at expanding reach by equipping coaches with the tools and knowledge to effectively develop young talent. This program underscores the organization’s commitment to excellence in coaching, ensuring that coaches are affirmed as well as being prepared to guide athletes in both their sports and personal growth.
“Jackie Robinson’s courage and perseverance transcended baseball, leaving an indelible mark on our nation’s history,” said C.J. Stewart, Co-Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of L.E.A.D. Center for Youth. “By launching this program, we honor his legacy by amplifying our ability to empower the next generation of leaders, both on the field and in the community.”
L.E.A.D. invites the community to commemorate this special day by supporting young athletes, engaging with local baseball programs, and advocating for continued investment in sports-based youth development.
