The Caregiver’s Journey Granted Nonprofit Status, Announces Advisory Board Members
Wednesday, April 9th, 2025
The Caregiver’s Journey has received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, supporting the foundation’s mission to empower dementia family caregivers with the essential knowledge and practical resources they need to find confidence, patience and peace of mind throughout their caregiving journey. It has also named three members to its advisory board. These announcements were made today by The Caregiver’s Journey Founders Sue Ryan, ACC™ and Nancy Treaster, CCC™.
“Moving to nonprofit status was the next logical step in our dedication to helping people,” said Ryan. “This shift makes it possible to expand our reach and impact as we serve communities across the globe and fulfill our mission.” The new designation facilitates enhanced funding opportunities, partnerships and community support, all of which enable the organization to further its commitment to help dementia caregivers more easily tackle the common, day-to-day challenges they face.
Receiving nonprofit status follows The Caregiver’s Journey recently joining a fiscal sponsorship with Players Philanthropy Fund Inc. (PPF). Via the fiscal sponsorship, The Caregiver’s Journey receives support with accepting tax-deductible donations, applying for and distributing grants, hosting fundraisers and events, operating mission-driven programs and more. It also can utilize PPF’s many years of experience as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation as a guide to help with growth.
“We are also pleased to announce The Caregiver’s Journey Advisory Board,” said Treaster. “Their passion for what we’re doing, combined with their extensive knowledge of strategic planning, nonprofits and technology, are sure to help us leap into a new realm of delivering impactful resources to dementia family caregivers.”
The following initial members are distinguished professionals who have made significant contributions to their fields:
-
Cynthia Davis: Founder of Incremental Monumental Change, founder of The Pitch Tank and CEO of Radiant Blue LLC
-
Mike Potts: Retired president and CEO consultant who spent 20 years driving innovation in technology
-
Julie Wilkerson: Executive director of the Macon Arts Alliance and expert in nonprofit management
Treaster and Ryan, who have been friends for more than 35 years, have found that their practical advice and heartfelt guidance resonates deeply with their fast-growing audience. The Caregiver’s Journey offers dementia family caregivers resources that include a podcast, a blog, books, guides, online courses and videos. The Caregiver’s Journey podcast now has over 12,000 subscribers globally in just the first eight months. With over 30 episodes and more in the making, this momentum is attributed to both Treaster and Ryan being experienced dementia caregivers who understand the emotional and practical challenges that come with the role. And they are undaunted by difficult conversations.
