Georgia State Community Makes History on Georgia State Day 2025
Monday, April 21st, 2025
Georgia State University’s seventh annual day of giving, Georgia State Day 2025, made history, setting a new GSU giving day record by topping $1 million for the first time. Through their giving, nearly 2,000 donors significantly boosted nearly 300 university programs that create student opportunity and foster success in the classroom and beyond.
Held April 2-3, Georgia State Day’s record-breaking fundraising was propelled by more than 2,300 gifts and the largest amount of challenge gift dollars in GSU giving day history. Those new highs in challenge gifts were headlined by two contributions from the Georgia State University Foundation: a dollar-for-dollar match up to $100,000 on all Georgia State Day donations to the university-wide scholarships fund and a $100,000 challenge unlocked by 100 gifts to Georgia State Athletics.
“Georgia State University’s ambitious vision is founded in the belief that when we work together on a common goal, we can achieve anything,” said Georgia State President M. Brian Blake. “My deepest thanks to the GSU Foundation Board trustees for their generosity and leadership and to the nearly 2,000 alumni, students, faculty, staff and supporters who showed their commitment on Georgia State Day 2025 to ensuring GSU students have the resources they need to succeed.”
This year’s Georgia State Day again brought together members of the GSU community for an on-campus celebration to engage students, promote philanthropy and highlight the importance of donor support in creating opportunity and sustaining vital programs. Students on the Atlanta Campus came to an event at Hurt Park in downtown Atlanta to participate in Georgia State Day outreach activities, including recording and writing messages of appreciation to donors and supporting university efforts to engage the GSU community.
“On behalf of the entire Georgia State University Foundation Board, I want to express our enthusiasm and gratitude for the truly historic support — topping $1 million — shown by the GSU community on Georgia State Day 2025,” said Kevin Lofton (M.H.A. '79), Georgia State University Foundation Board chair. “It’s incredibly heartening to see Georgia State’s supporters generously commit to the university’s mission, unlock GSU students’ unlimited potential and share in our abiding belief in GSU and its students’ vital roles in Atlanta and beyond.”
