Two Exhibitions, Alice’s Wonderland and Enchanted Trees, Headline Spring at the Garden
Wednesday, May 7th, 2025
Back by popular demand, a crowd-favorite exhibit of giant plant sculptures, Alice’s Wonderland, returns to the Atlanta Botanical Garden this spring, complemented by a new display of light-reflecting Enchanted Trees by Poetic Kinetics.
Alice and all her pals are ready to usher guests down that famed rabbit hole to her special storybook fantasy land May 10 – September 14.
The tale of these 38 larger-than-life living plant sculptures, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s tales, begins with a pair of giant Storybooks outside the Visitor Center. Guests who look up will notice a grinning Cheshire Cat peering down from a wall as they stroll along the Promenade on their way to the star of the show: Alice -- spinning down the basin of Howell Fountain among a cyclone of playing cards and spilling teacups.
Beside the Great Lawn, the Queen of Hearts beckons as visitors are drawn to the source of music – the giant Singing Flowers that have sprouted along the Flower Walk! Finally, guests shouldn’t be late for their very important date with the giant 27-foot-tall White Rabbit floating in the Skyline Garden pond.
Complementing Alice’s Wonderland will be a new exhibit, Enchanted Trees by Poetic Kinetics, also opening May 10. Adding colorful, sparkling bling to pathways will be 10 life-size trees covered in dazzling acrylic leaves. Standing 10 to 17 feet tall, the sculptures will cast dappled light and reflective, shifting colors – depending on the wind – on everything around them, including guests.
The sculptures will remain throughout the fall and winter as a new feature in Garden Lights, Holiday Nights, open through January 11.
The exhibit marks the third time the Garden has presented work by Poetic Kinetics. In 2021, SUPERnatural: Aerial Art in Motion featured “Dream Flora,” a custom-crafted, rainbow-hued “Skynet” by Poetic Kinetics that billowed in the wind above the Canopy Walk. Another of the studio's Skynets, "Skyline Frost," has been part of Garden Lights, Holiday Nights since 2023.
The two exhibits can be enjoyed on Thursday evenings when they are dramatically light during Cocktails in Wonderland from 5 – 9 p.m.
