Judge Allyson R. Pitts Appointed to City of Atlanta Municipal Court

Judge Allyson R. Pitts has been appointed by Mayor Andre Dickens to serve on the City of Atlanta Municipal Court, where she has previously served as a Pro Hac Judge since 2017. Judge Pitts has also served on the City of East Point’s Municipal Court since 2007.
“Judge Pitts is an experienced and well-respected jurist who has already served the City of Atlanta with the highest of standards for years,” said Mayor Dickens.“Now with a permanent place in our Municipal Court, her wisdom and leadership will be extraordinarily beneficial for both the judiciary and the people of Atlanta.”
Judge Pitts has extensive legal credentials, serving on the bench of the Fulton County Juvenile Court from 2019 to 2022, Fulton County Magistrate Court from 2017 to 2018, the Clayton County Magistrate Court from 2010 to 2014 and the Fulton County Superior Court as a magistrate and a judicial officer in the family division from 2012 to 2017.
On March 5, 2010, Judge Pitts was sworn in as Chief Judge of the City of Forest Park Municipal Court, making history as the city’s first African American female to serve in that role, where she served until 2014.

Judge Pitts has also operated her own private practice firm, Allyson R. Pitts & Associates, since 1996. She has also served as a mediator and neutral third-party for the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution since 2017.

Judge Pitts has earned a reputation as a fair and highly competent jurist dedicated to the aims of justice. I am certain with this appointment by Mayor Dickens, Judge Pitts will enhance the courts status as best in class,” said Atlanta Municipal Court Chief Judge Christopher E. Ward.
Judge Pitts is admitted to practice in the trial courts of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Federal District Court of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.
Judge Pitts has been honored with several awards and other forms of recognition in the legal field, including being named one of Georgia’s Rising Stars in the Atlanta Magazine and the Georgia Super Lawyers – Rising Star Edition, and one of Atlanta’s Who’s Who in the Law Industry in the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Judge Pitts also received the Gate City Bar Association Judicial Section Thelma Wyatt Moore Legacy Award and the Horace Ward Legacy Award. She was honored by the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys with an award as its 23rd President for her outstanding leadership and service and she was awarded the Atlanta Metro Lions Club Leadership Award.
Judge Pitts served as a panelist at a Family Law Convocation on Professionalism, as a panelist at an Institute for Continuing Judicial Education seminar on Environmental Law, and as a speaker with the National Business Institute for a Family Law seminar entitled “As Family Court Judges See It: Top Mistakes Attorneys Make in Litigating Divorce.” She also serves as a Part Time Professor at Georgia State University College of Law where she teaches Family Law.
Judge Pitts is a mentor to many and is a member of several professional, civic, and community service organizations such as the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (Past President); Gate City Bar Association (Past Judicial Section Chair); American Bar Association; National Bar Association; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter (Past First Vice President); Metro Atlanta Lions Club (Past Treasurer); the South Fulton Running Partners; and the Atlanta Tri Sisters. Judge Pitts is currently the Co-Chair on the Board of the Carrie Steele Pitts Home.
Judge Pitts is a member of Ben Hill United Methodist Church, where she currently sings in the Majestic Choir, serves on the Women in Christ usher team, and serves as on the Legal Ministry and the Food Bank Ministry.
Additionally, Four Pro Hac Judges were appointed to the Municipal Court: April Williams, Bray Taylor, Jeffrey Lee and Zenobia Waters.
