Merrill Honors John Inhouse for 35 Years of Leadership, Loyalty, and Lasting Impact
Friday, June 6th, 2025
This month, Merrill celebrates John Inhouse, managing director and senior market executive, as he marks 35 years of exceptional service and leadership with the company.
Starting his journey in Ohio as a financial advisor, John quickly became known for his dedication to clients and colleagues. In 1998, he made a defining choice—stepping away from personal practice to take on a leadership role as a market manager. Since then, he has continued to elevate others, guiding them through their careers with the same care and intention that shaped his own.
In 2009, John relocated to Atlanta, where he oversees an office of more than 400 team members. Through his servant leadership style and genuine investment in people, he has built a culture where trust, compassion, and commitment are more than just ideals—they’re the standard.
“Believe in people and they will become better,” John says—a philosophy that has guided his career and inspired those around him. He attributes much of his leadership style to wisdom he gained early in life from his father, a hardworking spirits sales executive who led by example. "Customers bought from my dad because of the man he was—they liked him, even if the product wasn’t the best," he reflects. That principle of trust and character continues to define his approach to business and leadership.
A defining moment in his personal development came in 1992 when he heard legendary coach Lou Holtz speak. The message stuck with him: “Can I trust you? Do you care about me as a person? Are you committed to excellence?” These three questions became the foundation of his leadership philosophy and the lens through which he builds relationships.
Despite receiving several promotions offers over his career, John has consistently prioritized family first—never compromising the values that have made him the leader he is today. A proud father of two successful entrepreneurs (and likely three in the next few years when she finishes school), he has watched his family grow alongside the careers of countless team members and clients whose lives he’s helped shape.
