Inspiritus, a leading nonprofit organization that guides individuals and families on their journeys from surviving to thriving, has named Jaime Mok as executive director for disaster relief. Mok, a veteran in the field, will lead and manage the Inspiritus staff responsible for the implementation of disaster response and recovery programs.
Inspiritus offers refugee and immigrant services, disaster response and recovery programs, children and family services, disability services, empowerment services and community lending programs in areas throughout the Southeast.
Mok, formerly of Habitat for Humanity International and others, is a seasoned humanitarian professional with over 18 years of management experience. He is known for developing, implementing and overseeing international disaster operations, as well as preparedness and disaster resilience for various hazards, including hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, wildfires, displacement crises and complex and large-scale humanitarian aid programs.
In this role, Mok will manage local government partnerships, including long term recovery groups (LTRGs) and state voluntary organizations active in disaster (VOADs). He will also use his experience training over 500 community facilitators on disaster resilience tools across 15+ countries.
“Disasters are growing in scope and severity as they impact what seem to be newer and more unexpected areas with each passing season,” said John R. Moeller, Jr., president and CEO of Inspiritus. “Jaime’s expertise will enable Inspiritus, its staff and our dedicated volunteers to respond quickly and effectively to the disasters occurring in our part of the country.”
“My experience supporting housing disaster response programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, United States, Asia, the Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa will enable me to bring a fresh perspective to the work of Inspiritus as it grows and works to respond to new levels of disasters here in the U.S.,” said Jaime Mok, executive director for disaster relief at Inspiritus. “I am looking forward to using my knowledge and connections to help the Inspiritus team and our volunteers perform at their best.”
In 2024, Inspiritus provided disaster response and recovery services to communities ranging from Mountain City, Tenn. to Valdosta, Ga. to Lakeland, Florida, with more scheduled for 2025.
Inspiritus is a nonprofit social service agency that guides individuals and families whose lives have been disrupted on a path from surviving to thriving. In 2019, Lutheran Services in Tennessee and Lutheran Services of Georgia joined forces and became known as Inspiritus. The name “Inspiritus” derives from the Latin term “inspirit”, which means “to fill with strength or courage.” To “inspirit” is what Inspiritus does. Inspiritus helps individuals and families discover their inner strength and resilience, leading to a more fulfilling life. See www.weinspirit.org to learn more or donate.
