Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), a local architecture and engineering firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Garrett Owen, PE, as regional geotechnical lead for the firm’s Atlanta office. Owen’s hire reflects the firm’s continued growth and commitment to building communities through the fields of geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing.
Owen is joining the team as a distinguished geotechnical engineer with over 10 years of experience. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, he started his career in Atlanta and has performed geotechnical subsurface explorations across the Georgia region and managed construction materials testing projects for multiple types of developments. His experience includes soil stabilization, ground improvement systems, post-construction exploration and analysis, project management and a number of deep foundation alternatives on projects.
Owen’s professional experience includes directing the development and management of the Construction Materials Testing Department, where he implemented standardized testing procedures, established quality assurance protocols, and ensured compliance with ASTM and AASHTO specifications. He successfully led the laboratory through AASHTO accreditation by developing quality management systems, overseeing proficiency testing, and maintaining continual compliance with accreditation standards.
Notable projects Owen has worked on include Jackson Medical Center Clinic in Jackson, Alabama, Douglasville Public Safety Driving Course in Douglasville, Georgia, Hancock Facility Relocation in Gainesville and the under-construction Middle and High Schools at Sequoyah in Doraville, Georgia.
“We’re thrilled to have Garrett join GMC,” Executive Vice President Kevin Wales, PE, said. “His diverse experience with a wide range of projects adds valuable insight and expertise to our expanding team. We look forward to the contributions he’ll make both to our projects and the communities we support.”
