See How Children's Musuem of Atlanta is Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Atlanta’s vibrant Latine communities and Hispanic Heritage Month beginning Sept. 4, Children’s Museum of Atlanta invites kids and adults to dive into a lineup of engaging activities inspired by groundbreaking Latin American pioneers. Whether rowing on stage while discovering the story of Mexican Olympian Kenia Vanessa Lechuga Alanís or creating animal self-portraits inspired by Frida Kahlo’s The Wounded Deer, young learners will explore hands-on activities that connect them to influential Hispanic figures from around the world. The Museum will have a couple of special visitors this month including Alma Mexicana and Chase Guajardo. Plus, Building Blocks returns for toddlers with Artsy Mondays, Tinkerin’ Tuesdays, Messy Thursdays and Jam Session Fridays!
September Programming
Through Tuesday, Sept. 30
The Museum celebrates Latin American Heritage Month all month long with adventures throughout the Museum for kids and their parents. On the stage, kids learn about Mexican Olympic rower Kenia Vanessa Lechuga Alanís by roaring down pretend rapids using their imagination and their whole body. “A New Kind of Wild” storytime unveils a colorful story by Zara González Hoang that showcases amazing Latin American artists, scientists, authors and engineers. At the Science Bar, kiddos explore beaks and birds and find out how different bird beaks are perfect tools for grabbing snacks, sparked by the fearless all-women 2020 Kerr Expedition in Colombia. Creativity runs wild at the Art Studio with animal self-portraits influenced by Frida Kahlo’s iconic painting The Wounded Deer.

Kids can get creative and go wild with self-portraits by placing their head on any animal they choose, inspired by Frida Kahlo’s oil painting The Wounded Deer.
Science Bar
Soar over to the Science Bar to uncover the secrets of bird beaks. With a nod to the 2020 Kerr expedition led by an all-women team of bird scientists in Colombia, kiddos will see how each beak is designed to snag a bird’s favorite snacks!

Morph Gallery/Art Studio
Chattanooga-based artist Chase Guajardo will lead a Build-An-Alebrije activation in the Morph Gallery and Art Studio. Guests will make their own alebrije - colorful fantasy creatures inspired by Mexican folk art!

Artsy Mondays
Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29

Little artists can unleash their creativity and embrace the mess as they explore paint and stencils to craft vibrant shapes and patterns. They will discover how different stencil designs can transform their artwork in exciting ways. Artsy Mondays finish with an engaging storytime that sparks imagination!
Tinkerin’ Tuesdays
Sept. 9, 23 and 30
10 a.m. – noon
Come to the Art Studio for Tinkerin’ Tuesdays to build floating cities using foam blocks that float on water helping little ones strengthen their fine motor skills and creativity. After building, settle in for a storytime to wrap up the day with some favorite tales!
Messy Thursdays
Sept. 11, 18 and 25
10 a.m. – noon
Make a masterpiece that pops – literally! Kids use colorful liquids and a pipette filled with vinegar to create fizzy bubbly reactions that sparkle with color and sound allowing a fun, messy way to us all of their senses. The day wraps up with a lively storytime to keep the fun going.
Jammin” Fridays
Sept. 12, 19 and 26
10 a.m. – noon
Little ones will wiggle, shake and groove at the Jam Session in the Art Studio. They can unleash their creativity by making their own funky instruments then jam out and dance to the beat. The fun does not stop there as Jam Session Friday finishes with an engaging storytime that keeps the good vibes flowing.

The Questioneers: Read. Question. Think. Play!
Sept. 20, 2025 – Jan. 4, 2026
Based on the best-selling series of books by author Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts, this attraction invites kids and families into the imaginative world of Questioneers characters Ada Twist, Scientist; Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; Sofia Valdez, Future Prez and Aaron Slater, Illustrator. Guests have the chance to celebrate diversity, creativity, curiosity, bravery and resilience.
