County officials cut the ribbon on Monday for the newly renovated Field 7 at Rabbit Hill Park in Dacula. The natural-surface baseball field was converted to a state-of-the-art synthetic turf facility, designed to provide a smoother, more resilient playing surface.

The upgrade improves accessibility for individuals who use wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility aids, allowing them to move safely and comfortably. By minimizing surface irregularities and weather-related closures, the facility enhances safety, increases play opportunities and supports year-round use.

In addition to resurfacing the field, new fencing, dugouts and foul poles were installed. The project also included drainage improvements, a retaining wall extension and new concrete walkways that meet ADA standards.

“As a father and a resident, I know how important it is for our community to have spaces where every child feels included,” said District 4 Commissioner Matthew Holtkamp. “With these upgrades, we’re giving every child the opportunity to feel pride in playing the game, the joy of teamwork and the sense of belonging that comes with being part of a team.”

The converted field will support programs for children of all ages and abilities and serve as a versatile community asset, enabling local leagues and adaptive sports organizations to host practices, games and special events.

The $730,904 project was funded by Gwinnett County’s Recreation Fund.
