Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Tuesday, September 9th, 2025

September is Hunger Action Month, but in Kroger’s Atlanta Division, it’s always Hunger Action Month. The division announced today it will host a Community Million Meal Pack on October 16, 2025, in collaboration with U.S. Hunger to help silence hunger in metro Atlanta and communities across Georgia.

“We are inviting our associates and the community to join us in this endeavor. One individual who participates in the Million Meal Pack can pack up to 550 meals during their shift,” said Victor Smith, president of Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “By signing up to participate this month and showing up next month, you can make a tangible, meaningful difference in the lives of your neighbors who don’t have enough to eat.”

Kroger’s Atlanta Division is recruiting 2,500 volunteers for the event.

“As America’s grocer, we are committed to creating communities free of hunger through collaboration and community engagement. The inaugural Kroger Community Day Million Meal Pack with U.S. Hunger is a family-friendly day of service driven by our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative to provide nourishment to families facing food insecurity and strengthen community bonds while working together toward a common goal,” Smith said.

The Community Million Meal Pack, supported by The Kroger Co. Foundation, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Courtland Grand Hotel, 165 Courtland St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30303. There are multiple shift times available, and participants can sign up for one or more. Kroger associates and community members can register to volunteer at VolunteerKroger.org.

Founded in 2010, U.S. Hunger addresses hunger by uncovering root causes of food insecurity through technology and creating access to nutritious meals for low-income families and individuals. U.S. Hunger has distributed more than 180 million meals worldwide.

“Food has the power to bring people together, and that’s exactly what this event is all about,” said Rick Whitted, CEO of U.S. Hunger. “Through our collaboration with Kroger, we’re not just packing meals — we’re sharing hope and support with families who need it most. We’re grateful to everyone joining us in this effort, proving that when we come together, we can make a real difference. Every meal packed is a reminder that no one is alone in their struggle, and together, we can build a stronger, more connected community.”

Since launching the Zero Hunger | Zero Waste impact plan in 2017, Kroger has directed more than 3.4 billion meals to nourish communities and provided $1.5 billion to support hunger relief, including nearly 700 million pounds of surplus fresh food donations from its stores.
