Today, Thriving Together Atlanta, a collaborative effort between the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the National Black Arts Festival, and Out of Hand Theater, is proud to announce Chloe Alexander as the artist for Thriving Together Atlanta’s second public art mural. Located at the Ralph David Abernathy Underpass at the Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail, this mural will support Thriving Together Atlanta’s goal to engage in meaningful dialogue, spark critical reflection, and inspire concrete community action that addresses health disparities. Led by the National Black Arts Festival, this mural follows the successful unveiling of the first mural in Old Fourth Ward by C Flux Sing in April 2025

Chloe Alexander, a printmaker from Atlanta, was selected by members of the Westside community during a community input session in August. During this session, community members heard from the project partners, watched a play about racial health equity produced by Out of Hand Theater, reviewed presentations from the five artist finalists, and cast their votes for their preferred artist and ideas.

“Winning the Thriving Together Atlanta commission is such an honor, as it allows me to contribute to the community that has deeply influenced Atlanta’s cultural identity,” said Alexander, whose work has been exhibited broadly, including at Claire Oliver Gallery in Harlem, the International Print Center in New York, and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in London. “This project is an opportunity to celebrate resilience, caring for one's community, and connection, while expanding my studio practice further into the realm of public art.”

On October 4, 2025, Alexander’s final mural, which she describes as “a work that honors the contributions of past, present, and future community members,” will be formally unveiled at a celebration uniting community members and partners. Additional support for the mural comes from Gucci Changemakers and the Cousins Foundation, with added partnership contributions from the Atlanta Beltline and Hammonds House Museum.

Thriving Together Atlanta’s mission is to mobilize Atlanta residents through art, story, and shared experience toward a collective vision of ensuring everyone, no matter their race, has what they need to be healthy. This mission is particularly important in the Westside, a neighborhood that is seeing widening health disparities between legacy families and newer residents. The mural will be a visual reminder of the city’s ongoing efforts to support thriving, healthy communities through creativity and connection. On September 27, 2025, Thriving Together Atlanta will celebrate this work with its Community Arts and Wellness Festival. This festival will offer a full day of programming that centers joy, movement, and wellness. From morning yoga and social dancing to live music and performances, the day invites Atlantans to reflect, recharg
