InCommunity Celebrates 14th Golden Goals Awards Ceremony

InCommunity, Georgia’s largest provider of services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), celebrated the accomplishments of individuals and supporters in the community at its 14th Golden Goals Awards on October 21 at Roswell United Methodist Church. This luncheon and awards ceremony recognized the achievements of people with developmental disabilities, their advocates, and supporters.

“Golden Goals is one of the most meaningful events on our calendar,” said Meg Blackwood, CEO, InCommunity. “It’s a privilege to honor individuals who demonstrate resilience, creativity, leadership, and joy each day. The stories of our winners inspire and remind us why our work matters – to empower individuals to live independently, connect with their communities, and thrive.”

The 2025 Golden Goals Awards celebrated winners across multiple categories:

  • Community Impact AwardDaniel Wondaferew: Daniel serves as team captain of the USA Virtus Swim Team and actively supports others in his community. 

  • Dynamic Duo AwardSteven Painter & Ramond Fletcher Thomas: This duo exemplifies teamwork, trust, and friendship, creating a bond that uplifts both individuals and the community.

  • Sunshine AwardDavid Allen: David brightens every environment he enters with positivity, enthusiasm, and a welcoming spirit.

  • Ingenuity AwardAnna Cuviello: Anna demonstrates creativity and artistic skill through her love of arts and crafts, continually expressing herself through painting and hands-on projects.

  • Visionary AwardShaquille Cooper: Shaquille exemplifies determination and purpose, aspirations to pursue higher education, traveling internationally, and volunteering to feed the homeless in Metro Atlanta.

  • Exceptional Advocate AwardMarlayne Merrell-English: Marlayne’s dedication, leadership, and advocacy have made a profound impact on individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

  • Community Service & Leadership AwardMarsha Kennedy: Marsha leads programs at Roswell United Methodist Church, providing spiritual guidance, volunteer service, and support for individuals with special needs.

  • Inclusive Company of the YearThe Soop: The Soop demonstrates exceptional care, inclusion, and support for the individuals they serve, offering activities, translation services, and community engagement.

  • Direct Support Professional of the Year AwardBrenda Gates: Recognized for her leadership, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment, Brenda goes above and beyond in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

The event was made possible by Roswell United Methodist Church, Responsive Technology Partners, UnitedHealthcare, and Perimeter Office Products.

Roswell United Methodist Church, Rev. Marion Brown, and their dedicated team hosted the celebration at the organization’s founding location nearly 46 years later. Additional volunteer support came from UPS, with board member Richard Thorne serving as emcee and live music by saxophonist Jessie Boyce.

Now in its 46th year of service, InCommunity provides comprehensive programs across Georgia, including residential services, adult day programs, supported employment, community access, respite, family support funding, and access to the arts. InCommunity supports over 2,500 individuals, offering life-enhancing services that foster independence, inclusion, and meaningful engagement.
