Children’s Museum of Atlanta Celebrates the Magic of the Holidays with Daily Winter Fun All December Long

Children’s Museum of Atlanta is ushering in the winter season with a family favorite, Snow Days – a monthlong lineup of seasonal programs, creative experiences and cultural celebrations for families. Throughout December, guests glide across the Museum’s sock-skating rink, build wintry creations, explore science through winter-themed activities and join festive programs honoring Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Las Posadas. The celebratory month wraps with the Museum’s annual New Year’s Eve Bubble Bash, a kid-friendly countdown filled with music and cheerful surprises, and of course, bubbles!

December Programming

Snow Days

Through Dec. 31

Snow Days turns the Museum into a cozy winter escape with experiences designed to spark creativity and exploration. Children glide across the Museum’s sock-skating rink, embark on a playful “skiing expedition,” enjoy seasonal storytimes and build cozy bear caves and craft snowy scenes inspired by the season’s colors and textures. Also available are hands-on winter-themed activities throughout the Museum, from engineering mini “snowball” catapults at the Science Bar to designing art projects inspired by winter landscapes and animal habitats.

CMA On Stage

11 a.m. (weekends only) and 3 p.m. – “Winter: A Solstice Story” by Kelsey E. Gross

1 p.m. – Skiing Expedition

Art Studio

At the Art Studio, little makers design cozy hibernation caves for their bears using repurposed materials. Children explore structure, texture and design while discovering how animals prepare for winter’s chill. Additional seasonal crafts – from mittens – to snow-covered scenes – offer new opportunities for creative self-expression throughout the month.

Science Bar

Thursday, Dec. 4 – Tuesday, Dec. 30

Young scientists put energy concepts to the test with a winter twist to learn the difference between potential and kinetic energy before building their own mini “snowball” catapults. After constructing their creations, participants will see if they can launch snowballs toward a target – a playful blend of engineering, experimentation and festive challenge.

Sockefeller Plaza
Kids can slip on their favorite socks and glide around the Museum’s cozy in-house skating rink, festively decorated to evoke a winter atmosphere and bring the charm of a snowy skating day indoors.

Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet Scavenger Hunt

Through Sunday, Dec. 14

Families have a chance to explore the Museum with a festive Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet–themed scavenger hunt. Guests can search for hidden clues throughout the exhibits. After completing the adventure, participants may enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win free tickets to the show – adding a little extra joy to the season!

Lilly Workshop 

Saturday, Dec. 13
10:30-11:30 a.m.
Crafting Community, a character education workshop, introduces families to the concept of neighborliness through creativity and storytelling. An interactive paper puppet show spotlights everyday helpers who strengthen the bonds of a caring community. To register, visit this link. 

Hanukkah Observation

Sunday, Dec. 14

1 p.m.

Musician and storyteller Michael Levine will lead families through songs and stories that honor the traditions of Hanukkah and explore the history and meaning of the Festival of Lights.

Las Posadas

Sunday, Dec. 21

1 p.m. 

The Teotl Foundation brings to life the story of Las Posadas, a cherished Mexican tradition that follows Mary and Joseph’s journey in search of shelter. Through expressive dance and music, Alma Mexicana Danza Folklórica will share the beloved tale inviting families to immerse themselves in colorful costumes, swirling skirts and festive storytelling. 

Kwanzaa Observation

Saturday, Dec. 27

1 p.m.

Djoli Kelen returns to celebrate Kwanzaa with an energetic drum and dance performance that invites families to join in the rhythm and movement. Through music, storytelling and audience participation, guests will explore the rich traditions and values of Kwanzaa while celebrating unity and creativity. 

Bubble Bash

Wednesday, Dec. 31

Ring in 2026 at Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s annual New Year’s Eve Bubble Bash. Families can dance to music from a live DJ, make festive crafts and countdown to the new year with the Museum’s signature bubble wrap-popping celebration. Tickets are $10 (members) or $25 (non-members) and must be purchased in advance online at childrensmuseumatlanta.org or by calling 404-527-3693. Please note ticket prices increase to $15 (members) or $30 (non-members) after Dec. 25.

Artsy Mondays

Dec. 15 

Celebrate Snow Days with a messy activity perfect for little artists. Toddlers can explore their creativity by using a clothespin and pom-pom as a paintbrush to create snowy masterpieces. As they dip their pom-poms in paint to make colorful snowballs, children will also practice self-direction, curiosity and sensory exploration. 

Tinkerin’ Tuesdays

Dec. 9 and 16

Get ready for a dino-sized science adventure! Kids will explore the states of matter as they work to hatch dinosaurs trapped in ice. Using a little STEM know-how, participants will experiment with water and temperature to melt icy eggs and reveal the dinosaurs inside. It’s a hands-on activity that combines curiosity, discovery and prehistoric fun.  

Messy Thursdays 

Dec. 18 

Little ones can roll up their sleeves and get ready for some colorful, messy fun! Kids will explore sensory play and creativity as they roll different brushes to create vibrant works of art introducing the use of tools in play, letting little artists experiment with color and texture in a playful and engaging way. 

“Jammin” Fridays

Dec. 19 

Get ready to move, groove and make some noise with self-designed and created instruments during Friday Jam session. Kids can dance and follow along to fun, guided movements while exploring rhythm and coordination.

The Questioneers: Read. Question. Think. Play!
Through Jan. 4, 2026
Based on the best-selling series of books by author Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts, this limited-time exhibit invites kids and families into the imaginative world of Questioneers characters Ada Twist, Scientist; Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; Sofia Valdez, Future Prez; and Aaron Slater, Illustrator. Guests have the chance to celebrate diversity, creativity, curiosity, bravery and resilience.
