Kate Hewitt is the new director of community relations for Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Hewitt most recently served as president and executive director of 21st Century Leaders, a non-profit leadership development organization for Georgia high school students from diverse backgrounds. She led a volunteer team of over 500 and a group of 50 strategic partners – including Piedmont Atlanta – to support more than 2,500 students across the state.
“Piedmont Atlanta and Piedmont as a health system have such a strong legacy of service, compassion, and heart for caring for others. It's an honor to help shape that work moving forward,” said Hewitt. “I'm excited to champion programs that meet people where they are and help remove barriers to care.”
Hewitt was one of 10 young professionals honored by Outstanding Atlanta this year for her service to the Atlanta community. In addition to her work for 21stCentury Leaders, she serves as co-president of the Parent Teacher Association for Burgess Peterson Academy, part of Atlanta Public Schools. She is on the Changemakers Board of Hands On Atlanta, a platform that connects volunteers with projects, as well as the Youth Climate Action Fund Selection Committee for the City of Atlanta. Hewitt has completed two intensive leadership development programs in the last few years: Leadership Buckhead (2024) and LEAD Atlanta (2022).
"Kate’s extensive experience and deep connections in Atlanta will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our community relations initiatives,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., chief executive officer of Piedmont Atlanta. “She will work to build our volunteer program and expand on the ways we make a positive difference beyond the hospital walls.”
Hewitt earned her bachelor’s degree in electronic journalism from Butler University. She began her career as a reporter for WTHI-TV News 10 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
