Western Governors University, an accredited national online university, has presented the Technical College System of Georgia with a 2025 Partner of Excellence Award for its continuing efforts to break down the walls in higher education that limit students

WGU Regional Vice President Kim Estep, Ph.D., presented TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier with the award at WGU’s Elevating Impact Dinner on November 13 at Bishop Station in Atlanta.

The two institutions of higher learning signed a transfer agreement in 2022. Through this partnership, nearly 3,000 TCSG students and employees from across its 22 campuses have transferred to WGU. Under the terms of the agreement, TCSG graduates and staff are also eligible to apply for WGU Community College Partner Scholarships.

One such WGU graduate in attendance at the ceremony was Antoine Boynton, vice president of external affairs and institutional advancement at Athens Technical College. Boynton earned his MBA from WGU in 2020 but was unable to participate in commencement due to COVID lockdowns. He proudly walked across the stage at WGU’s commencement at Gas South Arena in Duluth on November 15.

“Commissioner Dozier is a proven leader and part of the reason why Georgia continues to be a top state for talent,” said Estep. “Greg leans into developing work-based learning opportunities for students and has created more pathways for students to continue their education at institutions like WGU. That kind of leadership is worth celebrating.”

“At TCSG, we’re committed to building clear, affordable pathways that help Georgians move quickly from the classroom to a rewarding career—and WGU is a key partner in that effort,” said Greg Dozier, Commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia. “This recognition underscores the power of collaboration in strengthening Georgia’s workforce and giving more students the chance to keep learning and keep advancing.”

Nonprofit, competency-based WGU offers more than 120 online degree programs and professional certificates in business, technology, health care and education. The university has more than 8,800 current students in Georgia and more than 12,700 alumni in the state.
