The Academy for Innovation in Medicine (AIM), a tuition-free public charter school, today announced it will open Georgia's first dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) Middle and High School at Uptown Atlanta, the transit-oriented mixed-use community located between Midtown and Buckhead. The school will move into a 30,000-square-foot space this summer in preparation for the 2026-27 academic year. Savills’ Senior Managing Director Allison Bittel and Corporate Managing Director Matthew Barnes represented AIM in the transaction.

AIM, in collaboration with Grady Health System and in partnership with RedefinED Atlanta, has created an innovative education model that integrates robust and rigorous STEMM coursework, dual enrollment college credits and immersive work-based learning at the partner institutions. AIM students will earn an associate degree and industry-valued career credentials, while also earning a high school diploma, positioning them for success in higher education and immediate employment opportunities. In its first year, AIM will enroll 260 students entering sixth and ninth grades, growing to serve 870 students across middle and high school.

“AIM is committed to removing barriers to opportunity, which means location and access to transportation are critical,” said Dr. Kristy Beam, Chief Executive Officer of the Academy for Innovation in Medicine. “We’re thrilled to call Uptown Atlanta home. Its direct MARTA access and proximity to major transit corridors make our school reachable for families across metro Atlanta and enables students to easily travel to hands-on learning experiences with our healthcare partners.”

In selecting Uptown, AIM was drawn to its vibrant mixed-use environment, onsite connection to MARTA and strategic access to metro Atlanta through its proximity to GA 400 and I-85. AIM’s space will front Uptown’s Main Street, which features chef-driven restaurants, unique retailers, state-of-the-art office amenities and community gathering spaces. Uptown’s retail and restaurant lineup includes White Windmill, Madre Selva, J’ouvert Caribbean Kitchen, Bene Korean, Sugarcoat, Roundhouse Kickboxing, The Commodore, 26 Thai Kitchen and Bar and Chow À La Carte at Uptown Test Kitchen. CBRE leads office leasing for Uptown.

"Uptown's superior location, connection with MARTA and unparalleled accessibility make it the perfect place for AIM to plant its flag,” said Kyle Kenyon, Senior Vice President for CBRE. “We are proud of Uptown to play a role in AIM’s life-changing mission and support hundreds of students in their academic and professional journeys. We look forward to the beginning of a long-term partnership that propels the future of the healthcare industry.”

AIM’s mission is to foster the next generation of healthcare professionals by providing an accessible, high-quality education that prepares students for both college and careers. According to the Chamber of Commerce, Georgia is expected to have 100,000 open jobs in the healthcare industry by 2030. AIM will directly address this workforce shortage by equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to fill these critical roles.

“Bringing AIM to Uptown Atlanta underscores how mixed-use districts can serve as powerful platforms for community impact,” said Bittel. “This is more than a real estate decision – it’s about embedding education, workforce development and healthcare pathways into an environment where students can see their futures taking shape in real time. Uptown offers the scale, energy and infrastructure to support that vision from day one.”

In addition to addressing the healthcare industry's need for more skilled talent, AIM provides students with a clearer path to economic mobility, even without obtaining a four-year degree. AIM expects 80% of graduates will earn a living wage ($26.28 per hour) within one year of graduation, according to the MIT, for an adult living in Atlanta. AIM’s starting pathways include Paramedicine, Health Information Management, and Practical Nursing, all with average starting salaries over $50,000 in metro Atlanta. Students will gain work experience with Grady Health System, the school’s priority hiring partner, setting them up for full-time positions and advancement.
