Nonprofit Senior Center Celebrates Lunar New Year
Tuesday, February 10th, 2026
On February 12, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m., First Senior Center of Georgia (FSCofGA) will host an extravagant Lunar New Year celebration in their 30,000 square-foot Norcross facility. This annual Lunar New Year celebration allows Vietnamese seniors to join in community for one of their most vital cultural holidays.
FSCofGA staff will mark the occasion with a performance of the joyful “Lion Dance.” This custom, most associated with the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival, will involve six FSCofGA staff members: four controlling the movements of an elaborate lion costume, one providing percussion, and another playing the role of Ông Địa, a benevolent deity. Additional highlights will include a “Spring welcoming” dance, music, and authentic cultural ceremonies.
In addition to the ceremonies, Von Tran, founder and CEO of FSCofGA, will crown Mr. and Ms. First Senior Center. These two seniors, dressed in traditional áo dài attire, will be recognized as stewards of the beauty and splendor of Vietnamese Culture. The contest allows all contestants to showcase their beauty regardless of age.
FSCofGA staff will adorn the facility with red and gold banners, hanging lanterns, and cherry blossoms, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere unlike anything else in Atlanta. Seniors will also enjoy a decadent feast featuring traditional Vietnamese Ông Địa rice cakes.
“For Vietnamese people, the Lunar New Year is a time to rest and share joy in life,’ said Von tran, founder and CEO of FSCofGA, “People can work hard all year round, and Tết is the occasion to celebrate those achievements with their loved ones. The Vietnamese celebrate the New Year grandly; this is the most important time to connect with our ancestors. We thank the earth and sky for the good things that have come to us over the past year and pray for luck and prosperity for our families and loved ones in the new year.”
