Tuesday, March 24th, 2026
Professor Greta Massetti, chair of the Department of Population Health Sciences at the Georgia State University School of Public Health, was named a 2026 Public Health Care Champion of the Year by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Massetti joined the School of Public Health in 2025 and is one of the nation’s leading scholars on the global epidemiology of violence and its association with chronic and infectious disease. At Georgia State, she leads a department with faculty expertise that spans applied biostatistics and epidemiology, infectious diseases and environmental health. She is one of the top 30 authors of intervention research in school psychology and has published more than 130 scientific publications and reports related to adverse childhood experiences, the associations between gender-based violence and HIV, and the global epidemiology of violence.
“Dr. Massetti’s recognition as a Public Health Care Champion reflects the extraordinary impact of her scholarship and leadership,” said Dean Rodney Lyn. “Her work advances the understanding of violence as a critical public health issue and exemplifies our school’s mission to improve the health of local and global communities through teaching, research and community engagement.”
Prior to joining the School of Public Health, Massetti was the principal deputy director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this role, she oversaw CDC’s data, science and programs to reduce overdoses, violence and suicide, and address mental health challenges.
“I’m honored to receive this award and grateful to the many collaborators who make this work possible,” Massetti said. “I look forward to continuing efforts that strengthen data, advance prevention and improve health in our communities and beyond.”
