Leadership and faculty from across Georgia State University gathered Feb. 10 for the Panther Innovations Awards, celebrating the work of university inventors and innovators throughout last year. The event honored individuals who have disclosed new inventions to Panther Innovations, received newly issued U.S. patents and those who received awards from the Georgia Research Alliance in 2025.
“Creating new knowledge is at the heart of our mission as a highly productive research university,” said Donald Hamelberg (Ph.D. '01), vice president for Research and Economic Development at Georgia State. “These individuals have not only expanded our knowledge but put in the long hours and hard work needed to transform something from an idea into real-world impact.”
Twenty-five individuals were honored, representing contributions across fields ranging from biology and computer science to linguistics, music and film.
“Georgia State’s broad research portfolio gives us the opportunity to support discoveries in so many different areas,” said Joanne Mitchell, director of Panther Innovations, the home of technology transfer and commercialization at the university. “It’s a privilege to help our researchers move their ideas into the marketplace, and we’re eager to do even more of that in 2026.”
