National developer Portman today announced it has hired Scott Ziegler as Senior Vice President of Mixed-Use Development. Based in Atlanta, Ziegler brings nearly 20 years of experience in development and real estate investing to Portman, where he will focus on sourcing and securing new mixed-use opportunities across key Sunbelt markets.
In this new role, Ziegler will be responsible for all aspects of mixed-use development in Florida and the Carolinas, including site selection, underwriting, deal negotiation, design coordination and project execution. He will focus on integrating a thoughtfully curated mix of uses with street-level retail and placemaking, ultimately delivering master-planned communities where people will gather, socialize, collaborate and live.
“Portman is a recognized leader in smart urban and suburban development,” said Ziegler. “When it comes to placemaking and curating authentic, walkable mixed-use experiences, there is no better name in the industry than Portman. I look forward to leveraging the experience I’ve gained throughout my career to help expand the firm’s mixed-use portfolio and build on its exceptional track record.”
Prior to joining Portman, Ziegler served as Managing Director at Hines, where he led large-scale real estate development, acquisition and financing initiatives. Earlier in his career, he served as Director at Canyon Partners, where he was responsible for debt and equity investments. He also worked on real estate investments at Lubert-Adler Real Estate Funds in Philadelphia. Over the course of his career, Ziegler has been involved in more than $8.5 billion of real estate investments across all major property types throughout the United States.
“As our mixed-use platform continues to grow, we’re proud to welcome Scott to Portman,” said Travis Garland, Chief Development Officer at Portman. “His experience across development, acquisitions, and capital markets will be central to our efforts of identifying and executing new opportunities that enrich communities with vibrant, people-first places.”
Ziegler is an active member of ULI’s Suburban Development and Redevelopment Product Council. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and an M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Portman’s mixed-use portfolio includes 28 million square feet of development and encompasses premier communities such as Spring Quarter in Midtown Atlanta; Junction Krog District in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward; The Moore Building in Nashville; Savona Mill in West End Charlotte; and The Line and Linea in Charlotte’s South End.
