ARC Accepting Public Comment on Amendment to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan

The Atlanta Regional Commission is accepting public comment through April 15, 2026 on a proposed amendment to the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) / FY 2024-2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). A public hearing will take place on Friday, April 3 during a meeting of ARC’s Transportation Coordinating Committee.
The amendment covers $115.2 million in additional federal funding through 2050 for 26 new projects and four existing projects. This includes a $79 million increase in federal funding in the short-term TIP, which allocates dollars for planning and construction through 2027.
Projects in this amendment include:
Safety and Operations:
- Intersection improvement on Moreland Avenue at Skyhaven Road and United Avenue (City of Atlanta)
- Two new roundabouts on SR 8 at Rocky Branch Road and Industrial Boulevard (Carroll County)
- Two new roundabouts on SR 92 at Jones Road and Demooney Road (South Fulton County)
Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements
- Powder Springs Road Multiuse Path from Cheatham Hill Road to County Services Parkway (Cobb County)
- Sandy Creek Road Multiuse Path from Eastin Road to Tillman Road (Fayette County)
- Multiuse path on Pine Needle Road connecting SR 120 (Abbotts Bridge Road) to roundabout at Irvindale Road and George Rogers Avenue (City of Duluth)
ARC serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for all or parts of 19 counties in metro Atlanta and is charged with developing the short-term TIP and long-term MTP to improve mobility and provide better quality of life in the Atlanta region.
The Transportation Improvement Program is the mechanism by which federal, state, and local funds are approved for all significant surface transportation projects and programs in the region The TIP is updated several times throughout the year as projects change or new funding becomes available.
