Georgia Oyster Growers Could Soon Have New Harvest Rules

Georgia DNR has approved a change letting oyster growers harvest commercially in warmer weather, as long as oysters are handled safely.

A study on floating gear found levels of vibrio, a harmful bacterium, stayed within safe limits when oysters were iced right away or kept shaded and placed in a walk-in cooler within two hours, before 10 a.m.
