My Home Communities (MHC), one of Georgia’s fastest-growing home builders is pleased to announce the addition of two key team members and the promotion of a longtime employee as the company continues to expand across metro Atlanta and into new markets.

David “Butter” Smith has joined the company as Vice President of Construction. A construction professional with more than 30 years of industry experience, Smith has owned his own company and worked with leading homebuilders throughout metro Atlanta. He is known for building and leading strong teams and for his commitment to quality and successful project delivery.

“Bringing Butter on board strengthens our construction leadership in a meaningful way,” said Jacob Prather, president of My Home Communities. “His experience and team-first approach will be invaluable as we continue to grow.”

Smith resides in the Athens, Georgia area with his wife of 26 years, Christina. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with their two children, Kaylee and Hunter, and following Georgia Bulldogs football.

My Home Communities also welcomes Andy Chandler as Due Diligence Manager. In this role, Chandler will evaluate new opportunities, manage due diligence processes and support the company’s strategic expansion into new markets.

Previously with The Providence Group, Andy will evaluate potential development opportunities by analyzing land, entitlements, zoning, utilities, environmental factors and financial feasibility to ensure each project is viable, low risk and aligned with the company’s growth strategy.

“Andy brings a thoughtful, strategic approach to due diligence,” said Prather. “His ability to evaluate opportunities from every angle will help ensure we continue making smart, sustainable growth decisions.”

In addition, Cheryl Watkins has been promoted to Director of Operations. Now entering her seventh year with My Home Communities, Watkins began her career with the company in Accounts Payable in 2019 and was quickly promoted to Starts Coordinator. In that role, she streamlined construction processes from start to finish and enhanced cross-departmental communication. In 2023, she expanded her responsibilities to include office management, further strengthening internal operations.

As Director of Operations, Watkins will oversee day-to-day operational functions, support strategic growth initiatives and continue to enhance internal systems and processes as the company grows.

“Cheryl’s promotion reflects her dedication and the impact she has made on our organization,” said Prather. “She understands our operations inside and out and is well-positioned to help lead us into our next phase.”

Prior to joining My Home Communities, Watkins supported the operations of a plumbing business, focusing on administrative and financial processes. With a lifelong connection to the industry through her father, a general contractor, she brings both personal and professional insight to her role.

“I am excited and blessed to be part of this organization and can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us,” said Watkins.

These strategic hires and promotion underscore My Home Communities’ commitment to building a strong team and delivering high-quality homes across the Southeast.
