UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation Event Raises $63,000 for Georgia Families

Business and community leaders from across metro Atlanta recently came together to support the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF), raising more than $63,000 to help local families access health care services for children with medical needs not fully covered by insurance. The event brought together corporate and community supporters, donors, and grant families. The funds raised are expected to help provide more than 40 medical grants for children and families in need across the region.
Now a growing tradition in Atlanta, the fundraiser reflects a strong and expanding commitment among local supporters who want to help children receive the care, therapies and services they need to thrive.
UHCCF provides medical grants that help families pay for treatments, therapies and health services not covered, or only partially covered, by their commercial insurance plans. The foundation’s mission is to help children access care that can improve their health, development and quality of life, and donations from events like this one make that support possible. UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation says it provides grants that enhance quality of life for children across the United States by helping families cover medical expenses not fully covered by insurance.
The event, held at Your 3rd Spot in Atlanta, featured grant recipient families whose stories underscored the real-world impact of UHCCF support.
Jen and Stephen Wandor shared how UHCCF helped their family secure therapy for two of their children. Their 9-year-old son, Luke, diagnosed with a phonological disorder, received two grants totaling $2,500 for therapy. Their 8-year-old son, Joseph, with a speech articulation disorder, received five grants totaling $7,200 for therapy.
Kimberly and Jeff Packer spoke about their 4-year-old daughter, Aubrey, who was diagnosed with ventriculomegaly, a condition in which the fluid-filled spaces in the brain are enlarged. Aubrey received three grants totaling $4,000 to help cover doctor visits and therapy.
Stories like these show why UHCCF matters to families across Georgia. When children need ongoing therapy, specialized care, or equipment, even families with insurance can face significant out-of-pocket costs. UHCCF helps bridge that gap so children can continue receiving essential care.
“Supporting UHCCF is one way we can come together as a community to help children receive the care they need and give families hope during their most challenging moments,” said Michael Wahlstrom, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual Plans of Georgia and Alabama. “Every dollar raised makes a meaningful difference for children right here in our communities.”
The event was supported by organizations committed to improving access to care, including UnitedHealthcare, Optum, The Ohman Family Foundation, and Marsh McLennan.
