Tuesday, June 9th, 2026
The Atlanta Hawks and Head Coach Quin Snyder have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, it was announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Snyder led the Hawks to a 46-win regular season in 2025-26, a six-win improvement from 2024-25, and the Southeast Division title. It also marked the club’s most wins since the 2015-16 season, while advancing to the Eastern Conference Playoffs for the first time since 2022-23 and the 50th time in franchise history. Atlanta averaged a franchise-best, and league-leading, 30.1 assists per game during the 2025-26 regular season, the ninth-most assists per game in a single season in NBA history.
“Quin has been a phenomenal leader for our team, and extending his contract reflects our commitment to stability and sustained growth as we build toward high-level success,” said Hawks President of Basketball Operations Onsi Saleh. “Over the past three seasons and amid an evolving roster, we’ve seen clear, measurable progress, which is a testament to the culture he’s established and the leadership he brings every day. He has created an environment where our players are challenged, supported, and empowered to grow, and that focus on player development has elevated our entire program.”
“I am grateful to the Ressler family and humbled to continue leading this team. I love this group of players, love coaching this team, and am fortunate to have a tremendous coaching staff. Atlanta has truly been home for my family, and I am excited to continue this journey,” Snyder said. “Tony, Jami, and the entire Ressler family are deeply committed to providing us every resource we need for success, and the partnership Onsi and I have developed is strong, with the shared focus of bringing Hawks fans the success they deserve.”
From the 2026 NBA All-Star break to the end of the regular season, the Hawks compiled a 20-6 record (.769%), the best record amongst all Eastern Conference teams and the third-best record in the NBA, trailing only Western Conference finalists San Antonio Spurs (.857%) and Oklahoma City Thunder (.846%). Over that time, Atlanta ranked second in defensive rating (108.6) and fourth in net rating (9.7).
Under Snyder’s guidance, Nickeil Alexander-Walker earned Kia Most Improved honors this past season, while Dyson Daniels earned the award in the 2024-25 campaign. Atlanta is the first team in NBA history to win back-to-back Most Improved Awards. Daniels was named to the Kia All-Defensive Second Team this past season, after finishing on the Kia All-Defensive First Team in 2024-25, one of only two players in the NBA to earn a spot on an All-Defensive Team in each of the past two seasons (Rudy Gobert, Minnesota).
Additionally, Jalen Johnson earned a spot on the Kia All-NBA Third Team, his first All-Star selection, was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month in March, his first monthly award, and took home Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors twice, also the first time in his career he won the league’s weekly honor. Johnson averaged career highs of 22.5 points, 10.3, rebounds and 7.9 assists, becoming just the fifth player in NBA history to average at least 22.0 points, 10.0 boards, and 7.0 helpers in a single season.
Snyder earned his fifth career Coach of the Month honors after being named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month in March. He led the Hawks to an Eastern Conference-best 13-2 (.867%) record in the month, tied for the most wins in a single month in his head coaching career.
He was named the 15th full-time head coach of the Hawks on February 26, 2023, following eight seasons at the helm of the Utah Jazz. Snyder has compiled 504 career wins, the fifth-most amongst all active NBA coaches. He owns 132 wins as head coach of the Hawks, the eighth-most in franchise history.
