First-Ever National Conference Created Exclusively for Widowers to Launch This Summer

Refuge Widowers, a nonprofit ministry serving widowed men, has announced the launch of the first-ever conference created exclusively for widowers. The event, titled “As For Me and My House,” will take place July 31–August 1, 2026 and is expected to draw men from across the United States.

Founded in 2020 by widower Daniel Brooker, Refuge Widowers has grown into the only nationwide ministry designed specifically to support widowers, many of whom are raising children while navigating grief and loss. What began as a small, grassroots effort has expanded into a global community of men seeking guidance, connection, and hope.

“This conference exists because of what we’ve seen over the past several years,” said Brooker.

“When a man realizes he is not alone in his grief, something begins to change. He starts to think differently about his role, his responsibility, and what it looks like to move forward.”

As the Refuge Widowers community has grown, so has the demand for in-person connection.

The conference was created in direct response to that need, offering a space where men can gather with others who understand their experience without explanation.

The event will bring together both longtime members of the Refuge community and men attending for the first time. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from experienced guides, build meaningful relationships, and take practical steps forward in their personal journeys.

A distinguishing feature of the conference is its accessibility. Attendance is free, made possible through the financial support of donors and ministry partners who believe cost should never be a barrier to hope and healing.

Refuge Widowers places a strong emphasis on the broader impact of its work, particularly for families. Many of the men it serves are fathers, and the organization is committed to helping them lead their children with strength and clarity in the aftermath of loss.

“We believe the way these widowers respond to their pain will help shape their families for generations,” Brooker said. “This is about more than one moment. It’s about what comes next.”

The “As For Me and My House” conference marks a significant milestone for Refuge Widowers and for the growing number of men seeking community in the midst of grief.
