Georgia State University has appointed Dr. Ronnie Hebert as its next vice president for Student Engagement, effective Aug. 3.

Hebert brings more than 15 years of leadership experience in higher education, with a distinguished record of advancing student success, fostering campus engagement and building innovative support systems that help students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Since 2023, Hebert has served as vice president for student affairs and dean of students at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he has provided strategic leadership for a broad portfolio of student-centered services, including housing and residence life, counseling and health services, student life, career services, fraternity and sorority life, recreation and student conduct. He has led initiatives that expanded student well-being services, increased campus housing occupancy, strengthened partnerships with campus service providers and enhanced the overall student experience.

“Throughout his career, Dr. Hebert has been recognized as a collaborative and student-centered leader who combines strategic vision with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing today’s students,” said Allison Calhoun-Brown, senior vice president for Student Success. “His experience leading diverse teams, managing complex operations and implementing innovative student-support initiatives will serve Georgia State exceptionally well as we continue building on our commitment to student success.”

Earlier in his career, Hebert held leadership positions at Calhoun Community College, The University of Alabama and The University of Southern Mississippi, developing deep expertise in student success, first-year experience programs, parent and family engagement, orientation and retention strategies.

Hebert earned a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama, a Master of Education in Counseling and Personnel Services from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Southern Mississippi.

Hebert succeeds Dr. Michael Sanseviro (Ph.D. ’06), who is retiring after a distinguished career at Georgia State. Sanseviro has served as vice president for Student Engagement since 2021 and previously held the role of associate vice president and dean of students. Throughout his tenure, he has been an advocate for students, helping strengthen campus engagement, expand student support services and guide the university through significant growth.

“Dr. Sanseviro’s dedication to Georgia State and his stewardship of Student Engagement have helped position the division for continued success,” Calhoun-Brown said. “We are grateful for his service and commitment to our students and the university community.”
