Gwinnett County Commission Holds General Fund Millage Rate Steady
Friday, August 7th, 2026
On Tuesday, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a general fund millage rate of 6.95 mills, keeping the rate consistent for the seventh year in a row. Before the vote, the commissioners received public comments online and in-person at three public hearings.
Property taxes are based on millage rates set by county government, school systems and cities. One mill equals a dollar tax per thousand dollars of assessed property value. The Gwinnett County Assessors’ Office calculates the total value of all taxable property in the county, called the tax digest, by conducting annual updates of residential and commercial property values.
Gwinnett County homeowners who qualify for the regular homestead exemption also qualify for the Value Offset Exemption, which keeps the assessed value of a property constant for the County portion of the homeowner’s tax bill by setting and holding a base year value. With the millage rate being held steady, this means that the County tax amount will not increase for a Gwinnett homeowner even if there was an increase in the property’s value. The VOE which applies to a home and up to five acres of land, is specific to only the county government portion of the bill and does not apply to other taxing jurisdictions such as schools or cities.
"Holding the millage rate steady means that most of our residents will go another year without an increase to the County portion of their tax bill, maintaining meaningful stability at a time when families are feeling the pressure of rising costs,” said Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. "Intentional budgeting and careful stewardship ensure we provide strong value for every dollar residents entrust to the County, allowing us to continue delivering superior services our residents and businesses count on. We’re focused on preserving and improving the quality of life that makes Gwinnett a place people are proud to call home.”
The 2026 total property tax millage rate for property owners in unincorporated Gwinnett County will be 14.71. The millage rates for special service districts and countywide levies for recreation and economic development also remain unchanged from last year. Millage rates for service districts in Gwinnett are based on property location and county services provided, such as police, fire and emergency services and code enforcement.

Tuesday’s action paved the way for the Tax Commissioner’s Office to mail property tax bills in September, with payments due in November. Property owners or mortgage lenders can make payments by mail, online, in person at the main tax office or by using one of the special drop boxes located at tag offices.
