A push to get long-sought Beltline rail development back on track is gaining momentum in the Atlanta City Council, after such plans have effectively been on ice for the last roughly 18 months.

A resolution endorsing light rail around the 22-mile Beltline loop was passed Tuesday in the Community Development/Human Services Committee and it then passed the Transportation Committee on Wednesday. 

It could now go for a full Council vote next week (September 21). Its main provision is for a "coordinated report on the potential implementation path, funding strategy, right-of-way preservation, design principles, interagency responsibilities, and next steps which would be necessary to advance light rail transit" due by January 26, 2027.
