Cobb Welcomes New District Attorney

A large crowd gathered this morning to witness the historic swearing in of Joyette Holmes as Cobb's first African American and first female district attorney. Holmes was appointed and sworn in by Gov. Brian Kemp. She was joined by her husband and two daughters. Holmes is bringing a wealth of experience to the job because she has worked as a public defender, in criminal defense and family law private practice, as a prosecutor in the Cobb DA's Office and most recently as chief magistrate of the Cobb County Superior Court. She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology and criminal justice from the University of Georgia. Holmes earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in Maryland.
