Georgia State University has been ranked the No. 1 Military Friendly school in the nation for the 2019-20 year by Military Friendly website, which measures organizations’ commitment, effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful opportunity for the military community.
The university was among more than 8,800 schools surveyed in the United States and was chosen as the No. 1 school in the top tier of universities that were ranked. Other top tier research universities ranked included Cornell University, University of Southern California, Columbia University and the University of Georgia.
Now in its 10th year, the Military Friendly Schools list looks at how higher education institutions provide the best opportunities for veterans and their spouses. The weighted rankings are based on the retention, graduation and job placement rate of veterans and military-connected students, the administration of federal tuition assistance and the school’s overall commitment to veteran success on campus. The schools list uses public data sources, input from student veterans and responses to a proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly Schools survey developed by an independent research firm and an advisory council of educators and employers.
“This No. 1 designation shows veterans considering Georgia State that we are truly serious about them achieving academic success,” said Mark Eister, Georgia State’s military outreach director. “Our goal is to help each and every student earn their degree and, ultimately, secure meaningful employment.”
Georgia State has Military Outreach centers on six campuses. They are staffed with veterans prepared to guide, serve and help military-connected students with what they need to succeed in their transition to college and civilian life.
