    The Atlanta City Council voted 13-1 for the $607 million Fiscal Year 2017 budget recommended by Mayor Kasim Reed. The City’s total budget including both operational and enterprise funds is $2.02 billion. As the City emerges from the worst economic downturn in eighty years, it will not tap into its reserve fund to balance the fiscal year 2017 budget.

He said that was about the same time he learned that Leann, his daughter Emily’s best friend, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a life threatening disorder that affects the lungs and digestive system. The girls were in preschool together at the time, and Choate said when he learned of Leann’s diagnosis he didn’t know anything about Cystic Fibrosis.
