Atlanta Ranks No. 2 Among Largest Metro Areas for Job Growth
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Monday, July 20th, 2015
Metro Atlanta is once again a national leader in job growth.
The Atlanta region’s employment base grew by 3.2 percent from May 2014 to May 2015, the second-fastest growth rate among the nation’s 12 largest metro areas, according to a report from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).
Atlanta added 79,600 jobs during this period, the fourth-highest total, according to the report, which analyzed data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“We’re seeing strong growth in multiple sectors, reflecting recovery across our broad-based economy,” said Mike Alexander, manager of ARC’s Research and Analytics Division. “Major companies such as Mercedes have chosen to move to Atlanta, a clear indication that this region is a place businesses want to be.”
The fastest-growing employment sectors in metro Atlanta are leisure and hospitality, construction and professional and business services.
The ARC report also found that metro Atlanta has exceeded its pre-recession employment peak, set in December 2007. The region eclipsed that mark in May 2014.
