Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Friday, September 4th, 2015
Runners and walkers will have a unique opportunity to race on the 5th Runway at the world’s busiest and most efficient airport this fall. The Mayor’s Inaugural 5K on the 5th Runway, hosted by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and sponsored by Delta Air Lines, will occur on Saturday, October 17. All proceeds will benefit the United Way of Greater Atlanta. The 5th Runway will be temporarily closed Saturday morning to accommodate the expected 2,500 race participants.
“The Inaugural 5K on the 5th Runway is a terrific partnership between the City, Hartsfield-Jackson and Delta Air Lines, and I’m thrilled that all proceeds will benefit the United Way of Greater Atlanta,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “Lace up and join us for a unique race experience at the busiest airport in the world.”
“We are honored to host the Mayor’s Inaugural 5K on the 5th Runway.” said Aviation General Manager Miguel Southwell. “Not only is this a fun and engaging way to experience a race, but it will also give visitors a different perspective of the Airport while raising much needed funds for the United Way.”
“We’re bringing together the community and resources needed to make Greater Atlanta better for the children, families and individuals who need us most,” said United Way of Greater Atlanta President Milton J. Little, Jr. “This event is not just about the individual health benefits for those who participate. We are making our community healthier by convening, connecting and catalyzing Greater Atlanta—and essentially the world to increase awareness of the community’s most challenging issues in a unique, fun and effective way.
