Marietta Dental Office Adds New 3-D Technology
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Monday, November 2nd, 2015
Atlanta West Dentistry, a comprehensive dental office that provides solutions for missing teeth, has added new 3-D technology to enhance diagnosis and treatment planning.
The practice added a cone beam computed tomography machine that can be used to treat issues for all phases of dentistry. The scanner rotates around a patient’s head while taking hundreds of images, giving the doctors 3-D images and a precise view of the patient’s teeth and oral cavity.
“It will allow us to see early signs of pathology, including cancer, as well as other dental problems,” said Dr. Travis Watson, who operates Atlanta West Dentistry with his wife, Dr. Cameron Watson. “It will also allow for virtual dental implant planning that improves results and prognosis for implant restoration.”
Most general dental practices in the Atlanta area are not equipped with CBCT technology and require patients to visit specialists, adding time and cost to treatments. At Atlanta West Dentistry, patients can expect to have Drs. Watson handle their dental care from start to finish under one roof. Using the 3-D images, the doctors can virtually plan a patient’s entire treatment for procedures like dental implant placement.
Dr. Travis Watson said the practice has already seen the benefits of CBCT scanner compared with traditional two-dimensional X-rays. He added that patients are impressed with the clarity of the CBCT images and find it easier to review their dental problems and diagnosis.
“We are excited to not only have IV sedation for our patients’ comfort, but also cone beam 3-D technology,” Dr. Travis Watson said. “We feel that this puts us at the forefront of where implant dentistry is today. In addition, when virtual surgery is done during the implant planning process, the actual implant placement is very quick and very conservative in terms of surgery, which makes for far less postoperative discomfort, and our patients appreciate that a lot.”
Atlanta West Dentistry, 1808 Powder Springs Road, is a state-of-the-art office built in 2013. The practice provides all phases of dentistry, including preventive dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, sedation dentistry and dental implants. Dr. Travis Watson and Dr. Cameron Watson use the latest techniques and technology to provide thorough and compassionate dental care to all their patients.
The Atlanta dental practice offers the cosmetic solution Invisalign, which uses clear aligners to gradually move teeth into a more appropriate position; dental implants to replace single missing teeth and entire arches of missing teeth; laser dentistry to treat patients with gum disease; and comfortable digital impressions. The staff also uses a handheld device known as The Wand, which delivers local anesthesia without pain.
A Georgia native, Dr. Travis Watson earned his undergraduate degree in microbiology at the University of Georgia. He then received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Following dental school, Dr. Travis Watson was accepted into the General Practice Residency at University of Alabama-Birmingham, one of the country’s top residency programs.
