Thursday, December 3rd, 2015

The Atlanta Regional Commission Board today unanimously re-elected Kerry Armstrong to serve a second two-year term as chairman.

Mr. Armstrong, a commercial real estate executive, has served on the ARC board since 2008 as a citizen member representing a district that includes portions of Gwinnett County. His second term will begin on Jan. 1, 2016.

“I’m excited to continue working with the ARC board and with our talented, dedicated staff to make the Atlanta region an even better place to live and work,” said Mr. Armstrong.

Under Mr. Armstrong’s leadership, ARC has focused on regional collaborative projects, such as the Atlanta Aerotropolis Alliance, an effort to boost economic development in the area around Atlanta’s airport. The agency has also broadened its outreach into the community, bringing new voices to the planning table, including Millennials.

Mr. Armstrong has worked closely with ARC Executive Director Doug Hooker to improve ARC’s internal functions.

“A few years ago, the ARC board set a more strategic and collaborative course for ARC,” said Mr. Hooker. “Under Chairman Armstrong’s leadership, we have surpassed our own expectations. Thanks to his diligence and his passion for the Atlanta region, ARC is now driving conversations and actions that will shape our metro region tomorrow and for decades to come.”

During Mr. Armstrong’s next two-year term, ARC will adopt and begin implementing the community’s long-range plan, The Atlanta Region’s Plan, which provides a strategic blueprint designed to ensure the region’s future success and quality of life. The plan includes critical work in the areas of economic competitiveness, transportation, land use, workforce development, natural resources, services for the aging and much more.

Prior to being elected chairman in 2013, Mr. Armstrong co-chaired the Atlanta Regional Workforce Board, serving seven of the region’s 10 counties, and served on ARC’s Environment & Land Use and Executive committees.

Mr. Armstrong also is actively involved in numerous civic, educational and charitable organizations. He is the chair of the North Fulton Community Improvement District and serves as director and past chair of the Council for Quality Growth. He is a director and past chair of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and a director for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and also serves on the board of the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation.

The ARC Board on Wednesday also re-elected citizen board member Julie K. Arnold to another two-year term. Mrs. Arnold, who represents portions of DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, has served on the board since 1997 and currently chairs the ARC Strategic Relations Committee. She is president of Keeton-Arnold Communications.
