Wednesday, January 6th, 2016
Mayor Kasim Reed announced today that the City of Atlanta has closed on its purchase of the City Plaza complex, effective December 29, 2015. The complex is located directly across from City Hall in downtown Atlanta, at 241 Central Avenue SW between Trinity Ave and Mitchell Street.
“Acquiring the City Plaza complex provides us with an important opportunity to enhance services for city residents and make the City of Atlanta an employer of choice,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “I am excited about this opportunity and believe residents and employees will benefit from this acquisition for years to come.”
The complex contains approximately 30,000 square feet of retail space, divided into six bays. Current plans include converting the largest space into a wellness and fitness center, which will include a pharmacy open to City of Atlanta employees. The Reed Administration is evaluating options to repurpose the remaining space, taking into consideration potential needs of both city residents and employees.
The City Plaza complex also includes 164 apartment units, which are currently more than 90 percent occupied. Residential leases will not be affected and all tenants have been notified of the change in ownership.
