All school systems in the State of Georgia were recently required to select a new operating model.
As a result, beginning July 1, 2016, Atlanta Public Schools will begin operating as a Charter System.
 
Today, APS will launch the new community engagement campaign to support this effort, Strong Schools Start With Me!. The first goal of the campaign is to ensure that parents, educators and community members are invited to participate in Local School Governance Teams at each school to share in the decision-making process.

This group will replace the Local School Council at each school and will be responsible for collaborating with school leaders to provide input regarding personnel, finance, school operations and school improvement at each campus.
 
Parents and educators can declare their candidacy for GO Teams leadership roles, while community members show interest in participating by registering online at the APS website by February 15. Online voting will take place March 8-14.
