Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta will honor longtime supporter Shan Cooper, just named chief supply chain and technology officer of WestRock Company and former VP and General Manager of Lockheed Martin, with the prestigious ‘Changing the World’ award at their March 15, 2016 Second Century Breakfast.  “We celebrate Shan not just for her extraordinary professional success, but also for the significant impact she has made in our community, particularly in promoting STEM education and building the STEM jobs pipeline for women and underrepresented minorities. She truly exemplifies the Girl Scout ideals of courage, confidence, and character,” said Amy Dosik, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.

Cooper is in notable company. Recent awardees include Kathy Waller, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Coca-Cola Company,  Carol Tome Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Corporate Services at The Home Depot, and Hala Moddelmog, President and CEO at the Metro Atlanta Chamber.  Presenting this year’s award will be Honorary Event Chair Paul Bowers, Chairman, President & CEO, Georgia Power.

Through the Second Century Circle, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta’s major giving society, community leaders play a vital role in empowering all girls to fulfill their potential. Second Century Circle investments support interactive learning and skill building activities such as robotics and coding as well as financial assistance for more than 6,000 at-risk girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience Girl Scouting. Funds also support 5 camp properties, training for 17,000 volunteers, and scholarships for recipients of the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting representing a significant commitment to community service.

Cooper, during her tenure with Lockheed Martin, helped Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta in their mission to deliver hands-on STEM activities to girls through Girl Scout Day at Lockheed Martin. Through this event, hundreds of girls have explored career opportunities in aerospace engineering and other STEM fields where they have historically been underrepresented.

This year’s Breakfast is spearheaded by co-chairs, Kelly Barrett, Vice President, Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance, The Home Depot and Lizz Patrick, Founding Attorney of Patrick Law Group.
