Atlanta Business Radio Spotlights Efforts to Help Veterans
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Tuesday, March 15th, 2016
On March 8, 2016, Atlanta Business Radio profiled a pair of local efforts geared toward generating attention and support for America's veterans. Host Ryan McPherson, himself a Purple Heart recipient, sat down with three people who are dedicating themselves to supporting the troops and making a seamless transition when those men and women come home from serving in the armed forces.
The first effort featured is Pat's Run, a 4.2-mile run/walk taking place in more than 30 cities across the country this spring. It is the signature fundraising event for the Pat Tillman Foundation, a group honoring the former NFL player who lost his life in 2004 serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan. Atlanta race coordinator Seth Deitchman joined the show to discuss the 12th annual Metro Atlanta running happening on April 23 at Newtown Park in Johns Creek.
The show also featured Jessica Higgins and Marsha Dickerson, both veteran transition specialists with Hire Heroes USA. The goal of their group is to empower transitioning U.S. military members, veterans and their spouses to succeed in the civilian workforce. They accomplish this through workshops, personalized career coaching and employment preparation counseling. Their services are provided at no cost to the military families they help.
In discussing Pat's Run, Deitchman summed up the mission for both groups saying, "Giving back to the veteran community who have sacrificed so much for this country means a great deal to me and my family."
