Cox Communications announced today that Anthony Pope will take the reins as senior vice president and Southeast region manager, effective Monday, March 14. In his new capacity, Pope will be responsible for leading 1,900 employees and the day-to-day operations of six markets located throughout Louisiana, Florida and Georgia.
A 20-year cable industry veteran, Pope has extensive leadership experience in operations, sales and marketing, customer experience and employee development. Pope’s most recent role in telecommunications was with Charter Communications, where he served as vice president and general manager for properties in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. In this position, Pope led day-to-day operations for approximately 520,000 television, internet and telephone residential and business customers and 1,100 employees.
During his career with Charter Communications, which spanned more than 14 years, Pope also served as vice president and general manager for the company’s operations in Jackson, Tenn. and as district manager for operations in Birmingham, Ala. Prior to joining Charter Communications, Pope held leadership positions for Tele-Communications, Inc. in St. Louis and Miami with responsibilities that included strategic planning, operations management, community leadership and franchise negotiation.
Pope’s appointment at Cox follows last year’s retirement of company veteran Jacqui Vines. Cox Southeast region markets include the metropolitan areas of Baton Rouge, La.; Gainesville, Fla.; Lafayette, La.; New Orleans; Macon, Ga.; and Pensacola, Fla.
"With his tremendous leadership abilities, I am confident that Anthony will ensure that Cox’s Southeast region continues to invest in growth and innovation, while delivering a great customer experience," said Paul Cronin, senior vice president of customer experience for Cox. "Anthony is a dynamic people leader who I know will be embraced by our Southeast region employees, customers and communities.”
Under Pope’s direction, Cox will continue the roll-out of Gigabit Internet speeds across the area. G1GABLAST offers speeds 100 times faster than the average Internet speed in homes today. He will also oversee deployment of a new and enhanced TV experience for customers, including a voice-controlled remote.
During his career, Pope has received numerous leadership and operations performance awards. He earned his Bachelor degree in Political Science, from Alcorn State University.
Pope and his family will relocate to Baton Rouge, the company's Southeast region headquarters and site of its Center of Excellence for Technical Support.
