Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Monday, March 21st, 2016
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta today named Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta its 32nd annual Managing for Excellence Award winner. Recognizing a nonprofit organization that demonstrates the attributes of a successful business, noted qualities of Managing for Excellence Award winners include:
-strong leadership
-consistent business practices
-stable infrastructure
-strong allegiance to support its mission and impact.
The Girl Scouts will receive a $75,000 award from the Community Foundation as well as a diverse array of recognition opportunities and customized consulting services from The Boston Consulting Group, sponsor of the award.
“Having a strong management team and strategic plan in place is essential for nonprofit success,” said Alicia Philipp, president of the Community Foundation. “We were impressed by how the local Girl Scout board and staff leadership, as part of a 100-year-old organization, continue to evolve and adapt to what girls need today. Having a strong team at the helm frees up the time and resources of others to focus specifically on building sustainable, scalable programs and tools that will help keep girls engaged.”
In granting the competitive award, Managing for Excellence review committee members noted the strong link and organizational support between Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and its national organization. The committee further appreciated the organization’s dedication to learning and commitment to continuous improvement. The enthusiastic support of the Girl Scouts’ Board of Directors was another factor that set the organization apart from other applicants.
Managing for Excellence applicants were ranked against criteria of more than 80 characteristics to win the award. Following a formal application and site visit process, the review committee selected this year’s winner.
“We are honored to be chosen for this prestigious award by the Community Foundation,” said Amy Dosik, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. “To be recognized for outstanding nonprofit management means we’re being good stewards of the resources that our community has invested in Girl Scouts. This grant will support the delivery of STEM, financial literacy, life skills and outdoor education programming to the more than 42,000 girls who are the future leaders of our greater Atlanta community. An increasing percentage of our members need financial assistance to be a Girl Scout, and this award will help to make scouting a reality for more than 10,000 girls from underserved communities. We are grateful to the Community Foundation for their support of our mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.”
Matt Beckett, associate director in The Boston Consulting Group’s Atlanta office added, “The Boston Consulting Group is proud to be a partner with the Community Foundation and Managing for Excellence. We are eager to work directly with Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta to help them continue to focus on best practices and propel them to even greater impact for girls in the metro-Atlanta region.”
