MARTA Adds Zipcar to Four Stations
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the ninth-largest transit system in the country, have partnered to enhance transportation options outside of the Perimeter by adding Zipcar’s “wheels when you want them” service to Chamblee Station, Doraville Station, Lakewood/Ft. McPherson Station and East Point Station.
The six new vehicles at these four stations join the 23 currently located at the North Springs, Brookhaven/Oglethorpe, Lindbergh Center, Arts Center, Midtown, Inman Park/Reynoldstown, Edgewood/Candler Park, East Lake, Avondale, West End and College Park stations. The vehicles are available by the hour or by the day for convenient pick-up and drop-off. They can be reserved in seconds on Zipcar’s mobile app, or online and over the phone.
“Our partnership with MARTA allows our members to access more cars in even more places, making it easier than ever to live car-free or car-lite in Atlanta,” said Vilaire Lazard, Zipcar general manager. “Members can hop off the train and into a Zipcar in a matter of seconds, providing them with the freedom and flexibility to ‘zip and ride’ to get where they need to go.”
Zipcar and MARTA first partnered in 2012 by locating Zipcars at eight MARTA stations. With growing demand, particularly outside of the Perimeter and in the neighborhoods of Doraville and Chamblee, the company has been eager to expand outside of the Perimeter to provide more residents and visitors with convenient access to transportation along MARTA stations.
These new Zipcars bring the Atlanta fleet to a total of 140 vehicles. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 180 miles of driving per day, making it a great option for those looking for ways to save money on the high cost of car ownership.
“Zipcar will allow our customers to have greater connectivity throughout metro Atlanta and beyond,” said Keith T. Parker, MARTA general manager and chief executive officer. “As more people choose MARTA as their preferred mode of transportation, we value partnerships that allow our customers to be even more mobile.”
Local businesses in Atlanta can benefit from Zipcar’s presence through the Zipcar for Business program, which offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The Z4B program helps businesses save money, meet environmental sustainability goals and reduce parking requirements by providing employees with access to Zipcar for business needs and other uses.
In addition to the vehicles in Atlanta, Zipcar members can reserve and drive in hundreds of locations, choosing from over 12,000 vehicles in the company’s global fleet.
