Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Tuesday, July 19th, 2016
MedShare, an Atlanta-based humanitarian aid organization, invites guests to celebrate the sights and sounds from around the world as the organization honors Dikembe Mutombo, Chairman and President of the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, with the 2016 MedShare Humanitarian Award at the inaugural Kaleidoscope gala. The event will feature live entertainment and international cuisine, while raising funds to support MedShare’s work to strengthen global healthcare systems and our environment through the effective recovery and redistribution of high-quality medical supplies and biomedical equipment.
“Dikembe Mutombo has been a partner with MedShare improving access to healthcare throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo at The Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and in the field,” said Medshare President & CEO Charles Redding. Most recently, Medshare’s supplies have served Mutombo’s efforts treating 3,000 patients with new hearing aids, addressing unmet needs concerning arthritis and degenerative joint disease in Congolese women, providing knee replacements and launching the Congo’s first cervical cancer screening program. These efforts will be celebrated at the Kaleidoscope gala in August.
WHAT: MedShare’s signature gala, Kaleidoscope – A Global Celebration, welcomes guests to The Foundry at Puritan Mill to be transported to Africa, Asia and Latin America during its inaugural fundraising gala. The event includes a cocktail reception, international fare provided by Affairs to Remember, a bourbon tasting, fun activities like a life-size Operation game, an international fair trade gift store and silent and live auctions. The evening will be capped off with a veritable world tour of live entertainment including music from Flamenco guitarist Witold Tulodziecki and an African fashion show by Issa Sorogo featuring African drumming followed by dancing to the sounds of The A-Town A-List.
The fundraising gala theme is in keeping with MedShare’s global mission to improve the quality of life of people and our planet through the impact from thousands of daily interactions the organization has in 97 countries worldwide.
