Google Fiber Launches Sign-ups, Opens Fiber Space at Ponce City Market

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Wednesday, August 10th, 2016

Google Fiber shared information about its progress in metro Atlanta, launching sign-ups for residents and businesses in five Atlanta neighborhoods and opening its new Fiber Space at Ponce City Market. For the first time, Atlantans in the five announced Fiberhoods can sign up for Google Fiber’s internet, TV and phone services.

Following the announcement, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed joined Googlers and guests for a tour of the Fiber Space and conducted the first live speed test using Google Fiber’s gigabit internet.

A unique facility that was built and designed with Atlanta’s diverse and thriving community in mind, the Fiber Space is more than a retail storefront — providing members of the community with a place to hang out, share ideas, sign up for service, and explore Google Fiber’s speed and reliability.

The first neighborhoods for Google Fiber’s residential and business sign-ups include Midtown East, Piedmont Heights, Virginia-Highland, Morningside/Lenox Park, and Old Fourth Ward.

Residents will be able to sign up for Fiber 1000+TV, Fiber 1000 and Fiber 100 products as well as Fiber Phone. Eligible businesses can also sign up for one of Google Fiber’s three SMB plans.

With Google Fiber, we’re laying thousands of miles of fiber-optic cable throughout the city -- directly to customers’ homes. As a result, within each Fiberhood, residents will have a limited amount of time to sign up so that we can quickly and safely connect those homes before moving on to other neighborhoods in metro Atlanta.

The deadlines for the five neighborhoods announced are:

●      Midtown East: September 29, 2016
●      Piedmont Heights: September 29, 2016
●      Morningside/Lenox Park: December 8, 2016
●      Old Fourth Ward: December 8, 2016
●      Virginia-Highland: December 8, 2016

Customers across the metro Atlanta area living in apartment buildings can use the Apartment Finder tool to see if Google Fiber is available in their building or if it is on track to come to their building. Likewise, single-family residential customers and businesses can sign up to receive notifications for their area so they can be among the first to receive Google Fiber.
